Group discussions in science – Harvest festivals

Our grade I children do science group discussions on a science topic every two months once. And this is one such group discussion. This group discussion was on the harvest festivals celebrated in various states of India.

The 28 states of India celebrate its own Harvest festival at various times throughout the year. Major Harvest festivals in India are Makara Sankranti which is also known as Pongal,Uttarayana,Lohri,Poush Parbon and Bhogali Bihu.

Our grade I children came in the traditional dress of each state to discuss about the harvest festivals.

That was a real feast for eyes and ears.

In our school we celebrate three harvest festivals every year. Here are the memories of those celebrations……

Onam celebrations in the month of September at school.

Onam pookolam by the children.

And Thai Pongal celebrations in January…..

And Holi celebrations in march….
